Glossybox March 2013 Review!

I wasn't expecting my March Glossybox to arrive today, I hadn't even looked for spoilers yet!

The month's theme is 'City Chic'. I had no idea what to expect from that!
Also included, alongside the product descriptions, was a really cute 'Little Travelling Book'.
This is a sweet little booklet divided into countries and for each country there are a few tips on either hotels, shops, food, sights etc to see. Also a page for notes and a page of cute stickers. I like this little extra!

Onto the box!....

Firstly a Tresemme extra hold hairspray. Oops, I don't use hairspray. Bummer! I'm sure I can find a home for this though. Nice size at last for Glossy though.

Then a cute mini Nails Inc polish in 'St James's'. This is a pretty good colour. Red, but almost a realllly deep pink. I would have preferred the lighter pink version, but this will still get used.

Then we have a Jelly Pong Pong lip blush. I can't see a shade name on mine, but it's red. I don't like this colour! Too strong for me and it kind of looks like a wax crayon. Shame. I looked at the ingredients and the first one is mineral oil. Hmm, mineral oil is not that good for you! Don't think I'm liking this one.

Next, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream in 7ml. I've had this before and I've had it free from an Elizabeth Arden counter, so no excitement here from me for this sample. But, it's always useful to pop into a bag and have on hand.

Lastly, a 1.5ml Juicy Couture La La perfume sample. Yep, more perfume. More floral perfume.

If Glossybox used those beauty profiles, I would be 100% more happy with my boxes. The last few months I've had strong make-up colours and floral perfumes. Exactly the opposite of my profile!
If I had got pale colours and no perfume, I would be so much better off.

This month I can't say is a disaster because the products are ok. Not to my taste, but ok. Just a change in colour and a different sample to replace the perfume and I would have liked this box a lot.

But unfortunately I won't be using half of it again because of shades and smells!

How did you find this Glossybox, did you like your shades? Also, what other boxes do you like? Lux Box, Amarya? Which ones are good and worth subscribing to?

Birchbox February 2013 Review!

My Birchbox arrived!

I had seen a few spoilers for this month so was pretty excited for this one!

This box is London Fashion Week themed and all the products are good sizes.

First up we have a 50ml Vichy Eau Thermale spray. It says it is thermal spa water, rich in rare minerals and is 100% pure.
On the little card of products it also says it can be used as a toner, to set make-up or as a refreshing boost.

I tried it and it is very refreshing - great for summer!

Second we have a 50ml Korres Guava shower gel. I've tried a few products by Korres and they are pleasant, so I'm sure this will be nice too. Fruity smell is good for summer too!

Thirdly, we have a 59ml Nick Chavez Leave-In Thickening Mist. I haven't heard of this brand before it is American and has good reviews on qvc.com.

Fourth is a sachet of EBoost drink mix. It is a orange flavor vitamin and mineral powder drink. I've seen this before and wanted to order a sample but they only shipped within the US, so at least I can try it now!

Fifth, we have a Gerda Spillmann foundation compact. Super disappointed in this! It would have been perfect. The size is great for handbags and comes with a sponge to apply. Oh, it would have been amazing. If they had it in my shade! I don't know how many shades were sent out but I got 'Truffle' and  boy is it orange! I can't do anything with this! And I would have been so happy if the shade matched. So sad.

Lastly, a very nice bonus of an eyelash curler! I was going to go and buy one so this is perfect timing!

I've had a quick go and they do make a difference, yay!

I'm impressed with this Birchbox. Way better than the miserable Glossybox I had.
It would have been a fantastic box if the foundation had worked out!

Glossybox February 2013 Review

The February Glossybox arrived just a couple of hours ago, so here we go. Will it be hit or miss this month?!


The box is very cute this month as it is valentines themed. It will make a good storage box!
Inside we have pink tissue paper, pink ribbon and pink paper shreds.

Unfortunately that is where my 'ooh isn't this nice' feeling ended!

It's probably not a good thing when you dread the arrival of your GB because you don't want the cheap one Again is it?

First up is the MeMeMe Fat Cat mascara. I haven't tried it yet but hope it's decent and at least it's full sized.

Then there is a MICA Bella bronze blush, 0.8g. This is a bit too dark for me as I'm pretty pale!

Then we have a Helen E lipstick, 3.5g in 'Caribbean'. Again, way too dark!

Ok, then we arrive at the Voulez-Vous massage oil...............er, what the?

I know it's a valentines box and all, but, really? A 10ml pouch of massage oil? I don't want that in my box Glossy Box! If I want some, I'll go buy some, I don't want it to be one of my 5 samples k? Not when it could have been a 30ml Docteur Renaud face cream worth almost £20, or Anatomicals 50ml shower cleanser, or Sassoon 50ml hair shine.........grrrrrr!

Onto the last item in this months box, a perfume sample!

Narciso Rodriguez: l'eau

A bit too floral for me! Very light and flowery, lots of rose!

So.....the only thing I liked was the mascara this month. A 1/5 score, wow!

I don't know why they even bother with beauty profiles, I always tick the natural, pastel,  nude etc type boxes and never the ones for strong colours!

And why do some people get good sized shower gel AND hair spray in one box, while others get a pouch of oil and a vial of perfume. Could they not split those up and give a decent size and small size to even it out?!

I pay the same amount of money and constantly feel ripped off!

Sorry, rant over ladies!

Birchbox January UK 2013 review!

I write this blog entry as I sit eating my dinner all alone in Frankie and Bennys after getting snowed in at work and having to kip in a hotel overnight so I can still go to work tomorrow - thanks snow!

So, this is the first official UK Birchbox since it took over from Joliebox UK!

I was a bit cheeky and looked for spoilers on the box because I wanted to know a little about what I'd be getting and just from the spoilers I knew it was better than January's Glossybox!

So here's the box:

So, first item........tea-bag! Thanks! I like tea and all, but think I deserve a bit of a better 'sample', this could have been a bonus instead! I'm sure it tastes lovely though....!

Then we have TAAJ hand cream. They say it smells of cinnamon and I love cinnamon, but this doesn't really smell of cinnamon. Good for a handbag hand cream I think.

Next is WEI serum. I had this from Glossy and have yet to use it so I don't know what it's like. It sounds brilliant, but we will see! Have any of you guys tried it? Any good?!

Then we have fresh SUGAR lip balm, yayyyyyy! I've always wanted to try this! The colour looks a bit dark on the photo (and in the tube to be fair) but it leaves a slight hint of pink which is nice. And it seemed moisturising. Glad I got this!

Lastly is some KMS volume spray. I need some volume in my hair so will give this a go and see what its like. I recently tried another brand of 'root boost' type product and hated it, so hope this is better!

So, as a first box, it didn't wow me, it didn't disappoint me. It was good. Loved the fresh sugar balm. But was kind of hoping for a mega awesome box! Remember Carmine and their first box with 'the balm' blush? I was hoping for that, but I guess it was a decent start to Birchbox!

Glossybox January 2013 review!

I got home from work today to find my January Glossybox waiting for me. So I opened it right up to see what awaited me inside!

I was disappointed with Decembers box, so let's see what January has in store shall we?........

This month is a detox theme, so I was pretty excited to see what was inside. Detox sounds good!

I got 5 samples, lets break it down:

The Sanctuary 2 sample sachet pack. One peptide serum sachet that you smooth over the face first and a Thermal Rose clay mask that you then smooth over the serum to activate warmth and leave for 15 minutes. They are 3.5ml and 7ml sachets.
I actually got this exact sample free from Boots some months ago!

Next is a 30ml sample of MONU Micro Exfoliant. This sounds nice - it has papaya enzymes and Shea butter in it. I hope it isn't too rich though......

Oh joy, another perfume sample, yippee.  I am quite fussy with scents and almost every sample I have had, I have not liked. This is an average smelling floral scent!

Then we have a 1g jar of BM Beauty Finishing Powder. I photographed it next to the perfume vial to give an idea of size.
I have had a BM Beauty eye shadow before in a beauty box and it was pretty good, so hopefully this will be nice. It is meant to give a dewy, airbrushed appearance to skin and can be used alone, under or over foundation. I am very happy that BM Beauty is CRUELTY FREE, so thumbs up for that. I'm looking forward to trying this.

Lastly is a 3.5ml jar of Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for eyes. The full size of this is £57 for 15ml, so expensive. I hope this works for me although it doesn't mention helping reduce dark circles, which is what I look for in my eye creams!

To be honest, I am disappointed in this months box. It's ok, but the alternative box that I have seen includes a 30ml Elemis face wash, 100ml Paul Mitchell shampoo, full size lip balm and a cute looking Duck Island 30ml body lotion, all in addition to the MONU exfoliator I got.
That's a BIG difference!

I really wouldn't mind, but the boxes are always so far apart in contents. I feel a bit ripped off this month seeing the 'better' boxes contents.

I've been with Glossybox over a year just to give a bit of background seeing as the blog is fresh :) I'm so so thinking about ending things!
